Ahmedabad Crime Branch seizes MD worth ₹4.5 lakh in Vastral, two arrested

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested two men from Vastral and seized 150.090 grams of mephedrone (MD) valued at ₹4.50 lakh as part of its ongoing drive against the trafficking and sale of narcotic substances.

Acting on specific information, Crime Branch officials conducted a raid at Flat No. H/504, Suryam Elegance, near Silver Habitat, behind Madhav Farm in Vastral. During the operation, officers allegedly recovered mephedrone worth ₹4,50,270 from the possession of the accused.

The arrested men have been identified as Tejas Kumar alias Montu Rajesh Kumar Thakkar, 38, and Ajay alias Ajju Harishankar Jaiswal, 42. The arrests were made on June 19, 2026.

Police said the accused were allegedly found in possession of the narcotic substance without any legal permit or authorisation.

Property worth ₹4.9 lakh seized

Apart from the mephedrone, Crime Branch officials seized mobile phones, cash and other items believed to be connected to the alleged offence.

According to police, the seized property includes:

150.090 grams of mephedrone valued at ₹4,50,270

Three mobile phones worth ₹40,000

Cash amounting to ₹600

Six empty resealable (zip-lock type) bags allegedly used for storing the substance

Thirty additional empty resealable (zip-lock type) bags

Two weighing scales

One purse

Aadhaar and PAN cards

The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹4,90,870.

NDPS case registered

A case has been registered against the two accused as well as the alleged suppliers of the contraband under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the concerned police station.

Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the seized substance and establish the supply chain, police said.

Accused details

Tejas Kumar alias Montu Rajesh Kumar Thakkar (38) resides at Flat No. H/504, Suryam Elegance, near Silver Habitat, behind Madhav Farm, Vastral, Ahmedabad. His native place is Mogra Vas in the main bazaar area of Patdi, Surendranagar district.

Ajay alias Ajju Harishankar Jaiswal (42) resides at Flat No. B/504, Gajanan 189 Residency, behind Reliance Petrol Pump, Vastral, Ahmedabad. He is originally from Newada Sundarpur in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

Previous cases against the accused

Police records show that both accused have previously faced legal action.

According to police records, Thakkar was booked in 2026 at Odhav Police Station under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Preventive action was also taken against him by Odhav Police under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in March 2026.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal’s criminal record includes a 2014 case registered at Sarkhej Police Station under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 294, 323, 427 and 506(1).

Police records also show cases registered against him at Vatva GIDC Police Station in 2020 under Section 188 of the IPC and provisions of the Gujarat Police Act. Another case was registered at Bapunagar Police Station in 2020 under multiple IPC provisions, Section 135(1) of the Gujarat Police Act, and Section 25(1-B)(A) of the Arms Act.
