Owing to the geographical expansion of the area and the increasing population, Ahmedabad city's Crime Branch may get divided into two. Right before his retirement, then-police commissioner Sanjay Shrivastava held a meeting with top police officers for a special discussion.
The discussion was about dividing Ahmedabad City's Crime Branch into two divisions, creating East and West Crime Branch divisions.
The East and the West division
At that time, there was also a plan to make an eight-story building in the newly-built Bodakdev police station complex, for the West division office of the Crime Branch. The East division of the Crime Branch will be Gaikwad Haveli, where the Crime Branch currently is.
Why may the Ahmedabad Crime Branch be divided?
The increasing area and the population of the city were stated as the reason for dividing the Crime Branch. Sources also suggest that the divisions were made so the officials can reach and nab the criminals immediately. Moreover, the pattern of crime in the East and the West of Ahmedabad is also different.
In the West, areas like Bodakdev, Sindhu Bhavan, Vastrapur, Satellite, Navarngpura, Naranpura, and CG Road are tackling issues like drug peddlers, economic frauds, murders, attacks on senior citizens, and such. In the East, issues like assaults, murder, usury, theft, and looting are more prevalent.
The preparations for the bifurcations are believed to be in full swing. However, according to reports, many believe that currently the operations of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch are running smoothly and dividing may disrupt that.
