Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrests Lawrence Bishnoi gang associate from Udaipur after 3-year manhunt
The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has arrested a key associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who had been on the run for nearly three years. The accused, Manoj alias Chakki Shankarlal Salvi (21), was apprehended from Udaipur, Rajasthan, in connection with an Arms Act case originally registered by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in 2022.
According to officials, on December 14, 2022, Gujarat ATS had nabbed one Rupalal Bhawarlal Salvi with a country-made pistol and one live cartridge on the footpath outside Anand Restaurant, in Shivalik Complex near Panchvati Circle in the Ellisbridge area of Ahmedabad. During interrogation, Rupalal revealed that the weapon had been supplied to him by co-accused Manoj alias Chakki.
Subsequently, an FIR was registered at Ellisbridge police station under various sections Arms Act, along with the Gujarat Police Act. After evading arrest for over two years, Manoj was finally traced to his residence in Gordhan Vilas Colony, Sector-14, Hiran Magri, Udaipur. He was handed over to Ellisbridge police for further investigation.
Extensive criminal history
Manoj Salvi’s criminal background is extensive and spans across multiple states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Delhi. Police records reveal at least 11 previous offences, mostly involving armed robbery, possession of illegal firearms, and in one case, murder:

2. Sukher Police Station, Udaipur (2020) – Robbery
3. Hiran Magri Police Station, Udaipur (2020)

5. Hathipol Police Station, Udaipur (2022)– Arms Act
6. Samaypur Badli, Delhi (2023)– Arms Act.
7. Bindapur Police Station, Delhi (2023) – various Sections IPC and Arms Act
8. Dhanmandi Police Station, Udaipur (2023) – Arms Act.
9. Mawli Police Station, Rajasthan (2023) – Arms Act.
10. Shyamnagar Police Station (2023)– Charged under various Sections IPC and Arms Act in the high-profile murder of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. Salvi was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and was in custody for 18 months before securing bail.
11. Harmada Police Station, Jaipur (2024)– Booked under Arms Act.
Gang links and growing threat
Authorities confirmed that Salvi is a close associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has been linked to a series of high-profile criminal activities across India, including extortion, contract killings, and arms smuggling.
A senior official from the Ahmedabad Crime Branch stated, “The arrest of Manoj Salvi marks a significant breakthrough in our efforts to dismantle the Bishnoi gang network operating in Gujarat and neighbouring states. His criminal past and repeated involvement in arms-related offences make him a dangerous element.”
The accused is currently in police custody and is expected to face questioning regarding his broader links to organised crime networks and recent illegal arms circulation in Gujarat.
