Ahmedabad crime branch arrested two with MD Drugs worth ₹52.5 lakh

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch police on Sunday arrested two individuals for possessing a substantial quantity of Mephedrone from the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway.

Acting on a tip-off, the police seized 525 grams of the banned narcotic, with an estimated street value of ₹52.5 lakh.

The arrested have been identified as Ajay Prajapati, a resident of Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, and Anandi Damar, a resident of Gangasagar in the same district. Investigations have revealed that the contraband was allegedly dispatched from Mandsaur by one Kalu and intended for an Ahmedabad-based recipient named Shahrukh from Vatva.

The police team, led by Sub Inspector D.M. Solanki, was dispatched to the location on the afternoon of 25 May, following credible intelligence. The officers intercepted Ajay and Anandi as they arrived, finding Ajay in possession of a bag containing two packets of Mephedrone. At the same time, Anandi carried a black lady’s purse concealing another packet of the drug.

During the search, the police also confiscated mobile phones, identity documents, train tickets, and ₹2,320 in cash from Ajay. Anandi was similarly found with her mobile phone, Aadhaar card, and other items. Forensic Science Laboratory officials on the spot confirmed the seized substance to be Mephedrone.

Both accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are now focusing on tracing the origins of the consignment and identifying other players in this network.
