The City Civil and Sessions Court in Ahmedabad has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Imran Sheikh alias Gamdiyo, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for a brazen daylight armed robbery.

The court found accused guilty under Sections 392 (robbery) and 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on the convict.

The prosecution's case dates back to July 9, 2023, near the Insaniyatnagar gate in Vatva. The complainant, a CCTV technician, was riding his two-wheeler when accused intercepted him. Armed with a sharp knife, the accused threatened complainant life, forcefully pocketed ₹700, and stole a CCTV camera along with its wiring from the scooter's storage boot.

The police swiftly apprehended the accused the same day, recovering the weapon, cash, and stolen equipment from his possession.

While the court gave the convict the benefit of the doubt under sections related to criminal intimidation and the Gujarat Police Act, it ruled that the armed robbery was proven beyond reasonable doubt. The accused sentences will run concurrently.
