Ahmedabad Civil Hospital saves 775 lives through organ and tissue donation since December 2020

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has emerged as a pioneer in organ donation, saving the lives of nearly 775 people over the last six years since December 2020. A total of 241 donors have contributed 1,035 organs and tissues, marking a significant achievement in India’s healthcare landscape.
In the latest milestone, the hospital’s 241st organ donation has given a new lease of life to three patients. The organs were harvested from a brain-dead woman from North Gujarat, officials confirmed.
According provided detailed figures of donations received so far: 445 kidneys, 215 livers, 76 hearts, 34 lungs, 19 pancreases, 6 hands, 2 small intestines, 194 eyes, and 44 skin grafts.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi said that, a 29-year-old youth from Mehsana donated organs after being declared brain-dead, helping three recipients and inspiring many others.
In a remarkable display of humanity, these donations continue to bridge the gap between donors and recipients,” Dr. Joshi said.
In March, this year, in the profound act of humanity amidst grief, the grieving father of a 22-year-old brain-dead youth from Bhavnagar consented to donate his son's organs at Civil Hospital. The selfless gift of one liver and two kidneys successfully saved three lives.
