Ahmedabad civic body earns ₹128 crore from interest waiver scheme

Almost one lakh property owners in Ahmedabad  opted for the interest waiver scheme by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), earning the corporation₹128 crore in just one month.​

The scheme, active from January 1, saw 99,904 taxpayers paid their pending property taxes. The total amount collected was ₹143.19 crore, out of which ₹15.14 crore was waived as interest. After providing the relief, AMC received a net income of ₹128.05 crore. 

​The North West zone collected the highest amount of ₹28.38 crore. Other zones also showed a good response. The scheme will continue till March 31, 2026. 

​Under the scheme, AMC is giving a 100% interest waiver on old property tax dues for both residential and commercial properties if payment is made between January and March 2026.

​For residential land under the new tax dues system, people who submit a title clearance certificate can also get a full interest waiver on pending interest.

AMC is encouraging people to pay early by offering a higher waiver in earlier months, so early taxpayers get more benefit.

​All residential properties, including houses and huts, will get interest waiver was 31,2026. The waiver was 85% in January, will be 80% in feb, and 75% in March.

​AMC officials said the scheme helped people to clear old dues easily and also improved the corporation's income.
