Ahmedabad civic body earns ₹128 crore from interest waiver scheme
Almost one lakh property owners in Ahmedabad opted for the interest waiver scheme by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), earning the corporation₹128 crore in just one month.
The scheme, active from January 1, saw 99,904 taxpayers paid their pending property taxes. The total amount collected was ₹143.19 crore, out of which ₹15.14 crore was waived as interest. After providing the relief, AMC received a net income of ₹128.05 crore.
The North West zone collected the highest amount of ₹28.38 crore. Other zones also showed a good response. The scheme will continue till March 31, 2026.
Under the scheme, AMC is giving a 100% interest waiver on old property tax dues for both residential and commercial properties if payment is made between January and March 2026.
For residential land under the new tax dues system, people who submit a title clearance certificate can also get a full interest waiver on pending interest.
AMC is encouraging people to pay early by offering a higher waiver in earlier months, so early taxpayers get more benefit.
All residential properties, including houses and huts, will get interest waiver was 31,2026. The waiver was 85% in January, will be 80% in feb, and 75% in March.

AMC officials said the scheme helped people to clear old dues easily and also improved the corporation's income.
