The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a significant revision in the charges for its Fire and Emergency Services. The decision was cleared during the Standing Committee meeting, with service charges for certain categories increasing by one-and-a-half to three times.

According to AMC officials, the previous revision of fire brigade charges was carried out in 2011. After nearly 15 years, the corporation has introduced new rates to reflect rising operational costs, including increased fuel and maintenance expenses.

The revised charges, however, will not affect residents within Ahmedabad city limits.

AMC has clarified that no charges will be levied on citizens for fire and emergency services provided during fires, accidents or other emergencies within Ahmedabad city limits.

The new charges will apply when the Ahmedabad Fire Brigade is called to provide services outside the municipal limits, including in GIDC areas and private industrial units. Under the earlier system, fees ranged from ₹300 to ₹1,000 depending on the nature and duration of the operation.

With the latest revision, the minimum charge has been increased to ₹1,600 for services provided for up to eight hours. If the operation continues beyond the fixed time limit, additional charges will be imposed based on the number of extra hours required.

In addition to the service charges, applicants seeking assistance outside city limits will also have to bear the allowances paid to fire brigade personnel involved in the operation.

AMC officials believe the revised fee structure is necessary to meet the increasing costs of running emergency services. The decision is expected to mainly impact industrial units and establishments that require fire brigade assistance outside Ahmedabad’s municipal boundaries.
