A 45-year-old businessman from Bhat village in Ahmedabad has filed a police complaint alleging that an unknown thief broke into his home late Sunday night and escaped with gold jewellery and cash worth ₹1.8 lakh. The burglary reportedly occurred after the family returned home from a wedding.

The case has been registered with the Airport police station. Complainant Manishbhai Shah, who runs a textiles shop in New Cloth Market, stated that he and his family had left home on the evening of December 7 to attend a wedding in Adalaj. The family returned around 11.15 pm and went to sleep shortly after.

He and his wife were sleeping in their first-floor bedroom, while their sons were in a separate room on the same floor. Around 6.30 am on Monday, Anitaben noticed that the door to the attached dressing room was locked from the inside.

Growing suspicious, Manishbhai climbed onto the dressing room window and discovered that iron bars had been forcibly removed. Since the dressing room door was locked from within, the family sent their domestic help to get inside through the window to open the door.

Manishbhai found that ₹80,000 in cash kept in a cupboard drawer had been stolen. The thief had also taken away several pieces of gold jewellery worth ₹1 lakh. The total value of the stolen cash and jewellery is estimated at ₹1.80 lakh.

Airport police have registered the case under relevant sections of the BNS about housebreaking and theft. Further investigation is on.
