A 56-year-old man was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a residential apartment in Ahmedabad’s Shilaj area on Tuesday, prompting the Bopal Police Station to launch a murder investigation.

The deceased was identified as Manish Rajendra Choksi, who was residing with his son and nephew at Avnish Heights in Shilaj.

According to police officials, Choksi’s body was discovered inside flat A-902 of the residential complex. Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident may have occurred sometime before 9.30 am on May 12.

Investigators said injury marks were found on the victim’s face, raising suspicion of foul play.

As per police around 3.30 am, Vraj was seen leaving the residents with some bags and left the premises with Manish's Tata Tiago car which was parked outside the gate.

The victim’s wife had gone to Tirupati on May 5. She has been informed about the incident and she was on her way to Ahmedabad.

Police sources said initial inquiries at the scene indicated that Manish Choksi had allegedly been involved in a dispute with his nephew, identified as Vraj, shortly before the incident.

According to information gathered by investigators, Vraj had recently come to stay with the deceased after reportedly having disagreements with his mother. Sources added that he had been living with Manish Choksi for nearly 10 days.

Police officials said Vraj had also allegedly been brought to Shilaj to assist Choksi’s son, Samarth Choksi, in business activities.

Investigators are also probing claims that there had been disagreements within the family over property-related issues, including an alleged demand for a share in family assets.

The body was recovered from inside the residence itself, following which police teams rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team and dog squad were called to examine the crime scene and collect evidence.

Police have not yet officially named any accused and said the investigation is currently being carried out against an unidentified person.

Officials said statements of family members and persons connected to the deceased were being recorded as part of the probe.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Police said further investigation into the suspected murder is under way.
