Ahmedabad betel nut trader duped of ₹6.5 cr

Updated: Apr 1st, 2024

A betel nut trader filed a complaint against three, including the director of Harsha Engineering, for the non-payment of ₹6.5 cr worth of betel nuts.

The complaint was filed in the Madhupura market police station of Ahmedabad.

Manish Jain, a resident of Shahibaug, is a betel nut trader in the city’s Madhupura market. He had been doing business with Chitrang and Krupali Shah, residents of Paldi.

However, with an outstanding amount clocking ₹5 cr, Manish had stopped sending the goods to Shah since December 2022. At that time, Pilak Shah, director of Harsha Engineering intervened and put a word for Chirantan and Krupali to Jain.

According to the complaint, Pilak took responsibility for Chirantan and Krupali, assuring Jain that his is a limited company, with an IPO release, convincing Jain to send goods to Chirantan and Krupali.

This prompted Jain to supply his goods to Chirantan and Krupali again, at different times. Once again, the outstanding amount stood at ₹6.68 cr and was not paid.

Despite frequent demands from Jain, Chirantan and Krupali did not pay the trader. The duo showed documents of a shop in Gota, assuring Jain that he would be paid off with the money gained from the said shop.

However, Jain found out that the shops did not belong to Chirantan or Krupali, but the owner was Amit Patel. Upon knowing this, he filed a complaint against the duo and Pilak Shah for fraud and forgery of documents.

The police have initiated a probe into the matter.
