Preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games have officially begun in Ahmedabad, with the municipal corporation outlining major infrastructure upgrades including model roads, a model civic centre and new fire stations.

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani in a weekly review meeting instructed departments to accelerate readiness. He raised concerns that foreign visitors have been complaining about mosquitoes, urging the health department to ensure the city’s image is not affected.

The recently decongested Bhadra Plaza will be developed as a venue for public events. Officials have also been asked to intensify heritage promotion through BRTS buses.

Pani directed the corporation to clean up and ease congestion around Kalupur Railway Station, aiming to turn it into a model station ahead of the games. He also pushed for plantation work along the high-speed rail corridor.

A model civic centre, offering all corporation services under one roof, has been proposed. Departments have been told to publish details of all ongoing civic works online to keep residents informed.

The commissioner further announced that the city will get 15 new fire stations in 2026–27, including a centrally located model fire station. Currently, Ahmedabad has 19 operational fire stations, with three more under construction and four already approved.
