After the controversy over cracks in the Subhash Bridge in Ahmedabad, questions are now being raised about the safety of another important bridge. The 14-year-old Maharshi Dadhichi Overbridge connecting the Vadaj area to Dudheshwar in the east has shown signs of possible structural damage.

The iron rods are reportedly visible in the middle of the bridge, where the surface of the road has broken.

Questions raised against AMC’s inspection and consultant

According to reports, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC) had conducted a technical inspection of all the bridges in the city just five months ago, which should have highlighted the issue in the bridge structure.  Following this incident, serious questions are being raised about the performances and accuracy of the consultant agency that conducted the inspection.

Unusual vibrations felt when heavy vehicles pass

According to local motorists, when heavy vehicles pass over the bridge, an unusual vibration is felt. Along with the appearance of the rods, the fear of accidents is constantly looming due to the potholes lying here and there.

As the subhash bridge is closed for repairs, a large part of the traffic has been diverted towards Dadhichi bridge at present. Approximately more than 1 lakh motorists use this bridge daily.

If steps to repair Dadhichi bridge are not taken on time, it may lead to serious consequences. Now it remains to be seen whether the administration is keen to take an immediate action or not.
