Ahmedabad angadia firm manager disappears with ₹70 lakh

An angadia firm in Ahmedabad has accused its manager of embezzling ₹70 lakh over four days before disappearing, according to a complaint lodged with Kalupur police.
On Tuesday, a complaint was lodged by Jayeshbhai Kishorebhai Patel (50), a partner in the angadia firm operating branches in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Mumbai, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Amreli and Dhasa. He alleged that Hardik Gopalbhai Patel, who worked as a manager at the firm for the past four years, misappropriated funds collected between May 24 and 27, 2025.
Hardik, a resident of Satva Gold Flats, Nikol, was entrusted with handling daily cash transactions received from traders across the firm’s branches and maintaining its accounts. He was employed on a monthly salary of ₹14,000.
As per the complaint, on May 27, Hardik informed the firm that he was taking leave to attend a family function in his native village in Patan district. However, when accounts were verified the following day, it was found that cash worth ₹70 lakh was missing.
The complainant stated that when he contacted Hardik over the phone, the latter assured him that he would return and settle the accounts. “Later, his phone was found switched off, and he failed to report back to duty. His family, too, claimed they did not know his whereabouts."
Police have booked Hardik Patel under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal breach of trust and cheating. The investigation has been handed over to PSI Himkhan Jamalkhan Sidhi of Kalupur police station.
Officials said efforts are on to trace Hardik, who has remained untraceable since May 29.
