Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is planning a major change to reduce heavy traffic near its terminals. The airport authorities are considering building a separate road for VIPs and private aircraft passengers. This step is part of a bigger project to build a new integrated terminal building (NITB).

As per reports, the aim is to separate general aviation (GA) and VIP traffic from regular passengers. Currently, all types of passengers – commercial flyers, private jet users, and VIPs use the same roads to enter and exit the airport. This often causes traffic jams. To solve this problem, the airport is planning a new internal road. This road will connect the airport area on the Meghaninagar side to Dafnala Circle.

As part of the project, the airport is also planning to shift GA terminal and GujSail terminal, which are currently used for private and VIP flights. One possible new location for these terminals is near the existing GSEC Cargo Terminal. Moving these terminals will create more space for expanding the main passenger terminal.

Right now, vehicles coming to the airport usually pass through Dafnala to Airport Circle or use Ring Road and Hansol routes. Because all traffic uses the same roads, it often leads to delays and crowding.  Work on external roads will be handled by the concerned government authorities. However, the project may pass through Army Cantonment land, possibly requiring a special permission from defence authorities.
