Ahmedabad Air India crash survivor alleges coercion over settlement documents

A survivor of the June 12, 2025, Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has alleged that the airline forced him to sign “full and final” settlement documents while he was hospitalised and without access to legal counsel or family members.
Ajay Parmar, who sustained burn injuries in the incident, claimed that he was made to sign documents under the pretext of clearing expenses related to his damaged moped.
According to Parmar, he was on his way to eat when the aircraft crashed, setting his moped ablaze. He suffered 23% burn injuries and underwent treatment at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for nearly two months.
The accident occurred just a month after his marriage, Parmar said, adding that his wife has since left him owing to his physical condition. He also stated that he is currently unemployed.

Parmar alleged that he was not informed that the papers he signed amounted to a “full and final” settlement. “I did not understand the document,” he said, claiming that the airline sought to settle the matter for ₹5 lakh and thereby waive his permanent legal rights.
He said he had so far received ₹25,000 in cash and ₹25 lakh towards treatment and compensation but maintained that the amount was inadequate considering his injuries and loss of livelihood.
“I am ready to return ₹5 lakh, but I want justice. Air India has betrayed me. I want to work; no one is giving me employment right now,” Parmar said.
There was no immediate response from Air India to the allegations.
