Ahmedabad Zone-5 LCB foils murder bid, arrests two with pistol, cartridges and knife

The Zone-5 Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Ahmedabad on Sunday arrested two men from the Vastral area of Ramol and seized a country-made pistol, four live cartridges and a sharp-edged knife, foiling what police said could have been a serious crime.
The arrested accused have been identified as Chhotusingh Kushwaha and Ayush Yadav, police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo were allegedly carrying the weapons to take revenge for an altercation that had taken place about two months ago.
According to the police, the two accused had a long-standing dispute with Nishikant Kushwaha. The rivalry escalated into a physical assault earlier, and harbouring resentment over the incident, the accused allegedly decided to eliminate Nishikant. Acting on this intent, they procured a country-made pistol and a knife and set out to execute the plan, officials said.
Acting on specific inputs, the Zone-5 LCB team intercepted the suspects in the Vastral area and recovered the firearm, four live cartridges and the knife from their possession. Their arrest, police said, prevented a potentially fatal incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-5) Jitendra Agrawal said the timely action of the LCB averted a major crime. “Based on intelligence inputs, our teams kept surveillance and detained the suspects before they could carry out the offence. Further investigation is under way,” Agrawal said.
Police records show that Chhotusingh Kushwaha has two previous cases of assault registered against him at the Ramol Police Station. In contrast, Ayush Yadav has one prior case of assault registered at the same police station.
The police are now probing how the accused procured the country-made pistol and cartridges, from whom they were sourced and at what cost. A case has been registered at the RamoI Police Station, and further investigation is ongoing, officials added.
