After Uttarayan, AMC team set out to clear kites, threads from Ahmedabad roads

A day after the Uttarayan celebrations, teams from the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) were deployed across the city to clean public spaces and clear roads of kites, strings, and other festival-related waste.
From early morning, civic workers were seen removing tangled kite strings, paper scraps, and debris from arterial roads, residential localities, and public squares to ensure smooth traffic movement and pedestrian safety. Special attention was paid to flyovers, crossroads, and busy stretches where nylon-coated strings posed a risk to commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders.
Officials said the post-festival clean-up drive was part of AMC’s standard protocol following major public celebrations. “Our teams were mobilised immediately after the festivities to restore normalcy and prevent accidents caused by leftover kite strings,” an AMC official said.
Apart from manual cleaning, mechanised sweepers were also pressed into service in several parts of the city. The civic body said the drive would continue over the next few days to ensure that all public spaces are cleared and that sanitation levels are brought back to normal.
The AMC also appealed to residents to dispose of kite-related waste responsibly and cooperate with civic teams in keeping the city clean and safe after the festival.
