The active monsoon spell—fueled by an ongoing east-west shear zone and a strong monsoon trough—has brought normal life to a grinding halt in several southern pockets, and authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant as fresh weather systems continue to brew.

The past 24 hours ending at 0830 hours on July 23 laid bare the ferocious power of the monsoon, with rainfall recorded at most places over the Gujarat region and at many locations across Saurashtra-Kutch.

South Gujarat bore the brunt of this fury, recording staggering numbers:

• Exceptionally Heavy Spells : Isolated pockets in Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Tapi, and Dang, along with the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, were inundated by extreme rainfall.

• Day-2 Outlook (Valid up to 0830 IST of July 25): The widespread wet spell will firmly persist, bringing light to moderate showers to most places across the entire state and union territories.
