Small carts/stalls will get the cash aid of ₹5,000, for the owners of the small stationary cabins with up to 40 sq feet area, the aid will be ₹20,000.

For the owners of big cabins with an area of more than 40 sq feet, the aid would be ₹40,000.

Small and medium-sized brick-and-mortar shops, with a monthly turnover up to ₹5 lakh (according to GST returns), will get an aid of ₹85,000.

Large brick-and-mortar shops with a monthly turnover of more than ₹5 lakh according to the GST returns, can take a loan of ₹20 lakh for up to three years, with a subsidised interest rate of 7%, with total relief not extending ₹5 lakh.

The government declared aid for small, medium, and large enterprises in the affected areas today for the flood-affected areas of Gujarat.

State government spokesperson and family welfare minister Rushikesh Patel announced aid and assistance to trade, commerce, and economic activity units in the affected areas.

Cash doles announced for traders

In a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Bhupendra Patel today, the state government decided to provide relief in the nine districts affected by heavy rains. People affected in rural and urban areas of districts including Narmada, Bharuch, Vadodara, Dahod, Panchmahal, Anand, Aravalli, Banaskantha, and Mahisagar are entitled to a total aid of ₹77.45 lakh.

Moreover, affected owners of lorries; rakes; small permanent cabin shops; big cabin shops; small-medium-large shops; and shops that have a permanent structure will be given assistance by the state government, which will be announced soon.

Loans at subsidised interest

The government has also decided to provide interest subsidy assistance for bank loans. It has paid more than ₹4.96 cr for houses damaged by rain in rural and urban areas of the state, allotting ₹1.20 lakh in aid for the construction of each house.

A mockery of citizens’ plight?

However, when a notification was released on Sept 22 that the Gujarat government had announced a relief package for Narmada river flood damage caused by severe rains on Sept 16-18 in four districts, many believed the amount to be insufficient against the losses.

The Gujarat government has allocated ₹2,500 per family for clothing, and ₹2,500 for household goods.

The enraged people at the receiving end of the aid labelled the aid as a ‘joke’, saying that an oil can for a family would cost ₹3,000, and so aid of ₹2,500 is a mere mockery of their situation.
