After Dahod’s MGNREGA scam, ₹7.30 cr scam emerges in Bharuch’s 56 villages

In Gujarat, after the MGNREGA scam involving two sons of Dahod Minister Bachu Khabad came to light, similar irregularities were uncovered in three talukas including Jambussar, Aamod, and Hansot. A new complaint has been registered with the police regarding a scam worth ₹7.30 crore under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) scheme across 56 villages in Bharuch district.
The complaint was filed by Pratik Chaudhary, assistant project officer at District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).
The complaint names agencies like Jalaram Enterprise’s Piyush Nukani, and Jodha Shabad of Murlidhar Enterprise, and some contract-based outsourced employees. These agencies have carried out road repair work with irregularities between January 20, 2023 and June 30, 2024, according to the complaint.
As per the complaint, the mandated 60-40 ratio (labour to material expenditure) was violated in the procurement of materials. The work was falsely shown to be done as per government SOPs and criteria, and payments were cleared. Fake bills were allegedly created by inflating the quantity of materials used.
Payments of ₹13,05,676 were made to Murlidhar Enterprise and ₹6,58,898 to Jalaram Enterprise.
In total, financial irregularities amounting to approximately ₹7.30 crore have been reported across the 56 villages in Bharuch district.
Following an inquiry ordered by the district development officer, it was revealed during the investigation that the Taluka Development Officer (TDO) of Hansot, M I Parmar, was officially on duty from March 4, 2024, to June 30, 2024. However, his signature was found on a voucher dated May 7, 2023, prepared for the payment related to the mud-metal road work in Bholav Gram Panchayat.
