An affidavit has been filed in the Modasa Sessions Court in the disproportionate assets case against retired DySP and BJP leader J J Mewada. The affidavit claims that Mewada and his family own 131 properties across 18 villages in seven talukas of five districts, along with a Mercedes car.

J J Mewada, a native of Sabarkantha now residing in Ahmedabad, first faced corruption allegations in 2014 during his service as a Police Sub-Inspector up to the ranks of DySP. He resigned from service after his alleged involvement in a similar  case and later joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

In 2022, a second complaint was filed by Virigiri Goswami of Kalol, Gandhinagar, in the Aravalli Sessions Court, alleging that Mewada and his family had amassed properties worth ₹300 crore, which, as per the latest Jantri valuation, now stand at around ₹1,700 crore.

On August 25, the Second Additional Sessions Court of Aravalli ordered the complainant to submit details of all allegations and the list of properties in an affidavit. Accordingly, on August 28, complainant Virigiri Goswami submitted a 13-page affidavit in court.

The affidavit details that the accused, along with his son, wife, two daughters, and grandson, hold 131 properties across 18 villages in 7 talukas, along with a Mercedes car.

Now, as per the earlier court order, the accused will be served a show-cause notice asking why these properties should not be seized. The next hearing has been fixed for September 29.
