Accused shot in the leg while attempting to flee during crime reconstruction in Ahmedabad

A rape accused with a long criminal history was shot in the leg on Monday afternoon after he allegedly attacked a Crime Branch team and attempted to snatch a service revolver while being taken for reconstruction of the offence. One head constable was also injured in the scuffle.
According to senior officials, the incident occurred between 12.15 and 12.30 pm when the accused, identified as Moinuddin alias Badshah alias Saleem, was brought to the crime spot for reconstruction in connection with a rape case involving a mentally challenged young girl. The FIR was registered at Danilimda police station, and the Crime Branch had secured six days’ police remand.
JCP (Crime) Sharad Singhal said Moinuddin suddenly turned violent during the procedure. “He assaulted our personnel and made a desperate attempt to escape. He also tried to snatch the weapon of PI Imran Ghasura. In order to bring the situation under control, one round was fired, which struck him in the leg,” Singhal said.
During the scuffle, Head Constable Bharatbhai Rathod sustained injuries while trying to restrain the accused. Both Moinuddin and the injured officer were immediately shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment. Doctors have confirmed that both are out of danger.
Accused has extensive criminal record, history of violent behaviour
Crime branch officials said Moinuddin is a habitual offender with an extensive criminal background.
* Over 16 serious offences have been registered against him, including cases of violence and cow slaughter.
* He has been detained twice under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA).
* He has also faced externment (tadipaar) proceedings in the past.
* Police sources described him as mentally unstable with severe behavioural issues, violent outbursts and abnormal sexual tendencies, including fantasies related to self-harm.
Officials said Moinuddin exploited the early-morning isolation on November 27 between 3 and 4 am to commit the alleged sexual assault. CCTV footage from the area and questioning of suspicious individuals helped the Crime Branch identify him. Investigators also said the accused’s troubled personal history reveals patterns of instability: his first wife passed away, his second left him, and he is currently living with a third woman without formal marital ties.
The Crime Branch is continuing its investigation into the rape case as well as Monday’s attack on the police team. Further investigation is on.
