ACB raid at Nadiad GST office: Superintendent and Inspector caught taking ₹10 lakh bribe

In a major anti-corruption operation, two senior officials of the Central GST office in Nadiad were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh.
The accused officials Superintendent Amarnath Saroj and Inspector Subodh Chauhan had allegedly demanded a total bribe of ₹55 lakh from a transporter in exchange for releasing a detained goods vehicle. They were arrested while accepting the first installment of the bribe.
According to reports, the complainant, who is in the transport business, had his goods-laden vehicle seized by GST authorities. When he approached the office to get it released, the officials reportedly pointed out discrepancies in the documents and demanded ₹55 lakh to clear the vehicle.
After negotiations, the first installment was fixed at ₹10 lakh. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted the ACB through its toll-free helpline and reported the incident.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB team from Gandhinagar set up a trap at the Nadiad GST office. As per the plan, when the complainant handed over ₹10 lakh, both officials accepted the money after a conversation confirming the transaction.
Immediately after the exchange, the ACB team moved in and apprehended both officials on the spot. The bribe amount was recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigations are underway, including searches of their residences and scrutiny of their assets.
