ABVP alleges liquor supply at Ahmedabad’s NHL Medical College hostels

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday created a ruckus at the dean’s office of NHL Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad over alleged large-scale liquor supply and illegal activities in the boys’ and girls’ hostels of the college.
The ABVP alleged that liquor was being supplied inside the hostels and outsiders were being allowed to stay illegally in hostel rooms. The student organisation submitted photographs and videos as evidence before the college administration, including visuals showing empty liquor bottles lying in a dustbin outside a hostel room.
Some college officials are also allegedly involved in the supply chain, the complaint alleges. The ABVP claimed that rooms were being allotted illegally to those who are neither students nor associated with the college. It further alleged that hostel rooms were being allocated after taking bribes of ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 by the hostel rector and college administration.
The ABVP also accused the hostel rector of taking money from students for allowing installation of air conditioners in hostel rooms. Student leaders demanded removal of the hostel rector and hostel committee members, besides registration of an FIR against all those allegedly involved.
The dean of the college confirmed receiving the complaint from the ABVP and stated that an inquiry would be conducted by the hostel committee.
Notably, earlier inspections at the hostel of SVP Hospital had reportedly led to the recovery of prohibited items including cigarettes, tobacco products, refrigerators and electrical appliances. Following the inspection, resident doctors were issued notices and instructed not to bring restricted items into hostel premises.
