Abandoned toddler found at Geeta Mandir ST bus station, police launch probe

In a concerning incident early on Saturday, a toddler was found abandoned at Platform No. 1 of the Geeta Mandir ST bus station, prompting the Ahmedabad Police to register a formal complaint and launch an investigation into the matter.

Chandraben Manjibhai, a second-class officer at Kagdapith Police Station, stated in his complaint that a boy, approximately one-and-a-half years old, was discovered unaccompanied around 6.30 am by members of the PCR vehicle. The officers immediately informed the police station, the child’s identity and the absence of any accompanying guardian.

“Despite announcements over the bus station’s public address system, no family member or guardian came forward,” the complaint noted. CCTV footage later revealed a woman in a red saree, aged around 30, who left the child at the bus station.

Following standard procedure, the child was taken to the police station and placed under the care of Mahipatram Rupram Ashram, an organisation dedicated to looking after destitute children. Investigations so far have been unable to trace the child’s family, leading authorities to suspect that the child was intentionally abandoned.

The police have formally registered a case and have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the child or the unidentified woman to come forward to aid the investigation.

“The safety and well-being of the child is our priority,” said a police official. “We are exploring all leads to trace the guardian and ensure such incidents do not recur.”

The child remains in the care of the Mahipatram Rupram Ashram while the police continue their probe.
