The cracks emerging in the ‘I.N.D.I.A.’ bloc are widening as the Lok Sabha elections approach closer. Adding to it was the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) move today to field its two MLAs for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava will contest from the Bharuch constituency, while the party’s MLA from Botad, Umesh Makwana, will contest from the Bhavnagar constituency.
AAP will also field their candidates at six other constituencies in the state.
It is noteworthy that both of these AAP MLAs have escaped their respective turbulences in the political circuit.
Vasava was recently granted bail in a forest official assault case, where the dispute started between forest officials and the legislator over the use of forest land for farming by private parties.
While several speculations were made over Makwana joining the ruling BJP, which are now rubbished through this announcement.
Current office holders in both of these constituencies include six-time MP from Bharuch, Mansukhbhai Vasava, and Bharati Shiyal from Bhavnagar.
In the 2019 General Elections, the BJP swept the state by winning all 26 seats.
This move by the AAP further weakens the ties amongst the ‘I.N.D.I.A.’ bloc members, as last year, AAP state president Isudan Gadhvi announced that the party will contest the general elections with Congress in Gujarat.
On Feb 10, AAP also announced that it would contest the LS polls independently for the 13 seats in Punjab and the lone Chandigarh seat.
