932 people reported missing in Ahmedabad in just three months

In the past three months, 932 people have gone missing in Ahmedabad. On average, one person disappears from the city every two and a half hours. Of these, the police have been unable to trace 64% of the individuals.

According to police records, from March 1 to May 31, a total of 932 individuals were reported missing in Ahmedabad city.

Among them, 607 were women and 325 were men. Police were able to locate 340 individuals — 226 women and 114 men. However, 592 people are still missing, including a significant number of 381 women.

Data shows that most of the missing belong to the 18–40 age group. There were 43 cases where entire families, or a parent along with their children, went missing.

Cases involving people aged 60 or above going missing — often due to family disputes — have also been noted. The police stations of Nikol, Sola High Court, Odhav, Chandkheda, and Krishnanagar reported the highest number of missing persons compared to other areas.

Month-wise data of missing people

Month Missing people Men Women
March 321 207 114
April 290 198 92
May 321 202 119

Maximum missing from Ahmedabad east

Notably, nearly twice as many people went missing from the eastern parts of the city compared to the west. This data only includes officially filed police reports. Due to social or other reasons, many families do not report their missing members, so the actual number of missing persons may be even higher.

“A Special Missing Persons Cell is actively working to trace missing individuals using technical tools and human intelligence. Most people go missing due to love affairs or family-related reasons, so there isn’t a direct link to human trafficking in many cases,” said Pradeepsinh Jadeja, DCP – J Division.
