9 held for illegal gambling in AMC parking lot, one absconding

The Preventive Crime Branch (PCB) of Ahmedabad police has busted an illegal gambling den operating from a container in a parking plot of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation near AEC Cross Road, Naranpura officials said on Wednesday.

Acting on specific information, the PCB team conducted a raid at the site and caught nine persons allegedly gambling inside a closed container. One of the main accused managed to flee, and efforts are underway to trace him, police said.

During the operation, police seized cash and other items worth ₹5.23 lakh from the spot, including ₹3.03 lakh in cash and 10 mobile phones valued at ₹2.20 lakh. Gambling paraphernalia, including playing cards and related equipment, was also recovered.

The arrested accused have been identified as Jaimeen Labhubhai Barot (40) of Thaltej, Vishal Laxmanbhai Thakor (27) of Satellite, Jignesh Navinbhai Patel (45) of Satej, Bhavin Dineshbhai Patel (49) of Bhadaj, Harsh Prafulbhai Patel (36) of Satadhar, Janak Babubhai Patel (36) of Bhadaj, Haresh Bharatbhai Patel (40) of Sola, Champaklal Mansukhbhai Patel (73) of Chandlodia and Jitendrabhai Madhavlal Patel (62) of Kadi.

Police said Kuntalbhai Jashanvatbhai Patel, a resident of Shilaj, escaped during the raid and is being searched for.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, officials added.
