897 deaths in Ahmedabad in 10 years due to mosquito & water-borne diseases, alleges Congress

In the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) general body meeting, the opposition created a ruckus alleging that negligence by officials in various operations has led to the deaths of innocent citizens. Citing data, the opposition tried to corner the ruling party, especially highlighting fatalities caused by epidemics and accidents involving city buses.
The opposition alleged that lack of cleanliness, poor sanitation, and contaminated drinking water have fuelled the spread of mosquito- and water-borne diseases in the city.
In the last 10 years, 897 people have died from such diseases. In addition, 94 citizens lost their lives in the past 5 years after being hit by AMTS or BRTS buses.
Despite having two rescue boats on the Sabarmati river, neither is operational, nor is there a rescue team. As a result, more than 1,800 people drowned in the past 11 years.
The opposition claimed these incidents were not natural but the result of administrative failures. They also demanded adequate compensation for the families of those who died in accidents involving city buses.
