After a hefty run of rainfall in June and July this year in Gujarat, the month of August experienced a rather dry run. However, come September, the first ten days have seen heavy downpours, but still, many districts in the state face a rain-deficit this year.
Heavy rains in June-July and then a dry spell
The first ten days of September saw 1.5 inches of precipitation in the state, which added to the 86.25% rainfall of the season this year.
But the numbers from last year show a different story, as the state had experienced nearly 104% of the season’s rainfall by this time.
While South Gujarat has received the highest, at 47.67 inches of average downpour, it amounts to only 81.09% of the season’s average. On the other hand, Kutch has faced around 136% of the season’s rainfall, much because of the Biparjoy cyclone that struck the region in June this year, but that actually amounts to 29.94 inches.
