840 companies have moved base out of Gujarat in 10 years

Amid claims of a business-friendly environment, data reveals that 840 companies in Gujarat have shifted their registered offices out of the state in the past 10 years.

Out of these, 420 companies relocated to Maharashtra alone. The information was presented during the Winter Session of the Parliament and covers the period from June 2014 to November 1, 2025.

The highest number of relocations occurred in 2017–18, when 92 companies moved out of Gujarat. Other major destination states include Delhi, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Karnataka.

Maharashtra tops the list with 420 companies, followed by Delhi with 104, Rajasthan with 42, West Bengal with 40, Karnataka with 36, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh with 33 each, Tamil Nadu with 32, and Uttar Pradesh with 16 companies. Other states and Union Territories where companies relocated include Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (8 each), Himachal Pradesh (5), Kerala and Goa (4 each), Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand (3 each), and Punjab (2 companies).

Meanwhile, government data also shows that 680 companies shifted their registered offices from Maharashtra to Gujarat during the same period.
