81-year-old man loses ₹9 lakh to cyber fraudsters posing as CBI, Mumbai Police

An 81-year-old resident of the Sola area in Ahmedabad was allegedly duped of ₹9.4 lakh by cyber fraudsters who posed as Mumbai Police and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials and threatened him with arrest in a fabricated money laundering case.
The complainant, Dashrathbhai Jivanlal Patel, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Cyber Crime Police Station, Ahmedabad city, stating that between February 3 and 6, he received multiple calls from unknown mobile numbers from a person identifying himself as ‘Sandeep Rao’ from Colaba Police Station, Mumbai.

An audiology clinic in the Ambawadi area of Ahmedabad was allegedly broken into and burgled, with medical equipment and electronic devices worth over ₹60,000 stolen.
As per the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Ellisbridge Police Station, the theft occurred sometime between 11 am on February 4 and 10.30 am the next day at Ear Can Hear, a hearing care clinic located near Parimal Garden.
Dr Devang Bhavsar (41) told police that the clinic is usually opened in the morning by his father Vasantbhai Bhavsar, and operates between 10 am and 7 pm. On February 4, however, his father had travelled to Surat, and the clinic was opened and closed later than usual.
On the morning of February 5, around 10.15 am, Vasantbhai visited the clinic and noticed that the door handle was broken and the door was ajar. He immediately informed his son, who rushed to the premises. On entering the clinic, they found articles strewn across the room and several items missing.
As per the complaint, the stolen items include a Lenovo laptop valued at approximately ₹50,000, an Apple iPad worth around ₹10,000, 10 to 12 hearing devices. The total value of the stolen property is estimated to be over ₹60,000.
Police suspect that an unidentified person gained entry into the clinic during the night by breaking the door handle and decamped with the equipment.
Based on the complaint, an offence has been registered against an unknown person for house-breaking and theft. Police said they are examining CCTV footage from the building and nearby areas and recording statements of witnesses, including the complainant’s father and staff from neighbouring establishments.
