8 Gujarat airports report losses of ₹818 cr in 10 years

The airports in Gujarat under the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are in the urgent need of course-correction, since eight of them have reported losses of a whopping ₹818 crore in the last 10 years, with Rajkot airport topping the unwanted list.
A financial review was presented for the period from fiscal year 2015–16 to 2024–25, showing the cumulative losses faced by these airports. According to the report, Rajkot airport suffered the highest loss at ₹418.67 crore, followed by Bhavnagar airport at ₹122.08 crore.
The list released by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation does not include Vadodara and Surat airports. Ahmedabad airport was also privatised four years ago. Additionally, it was revealed that 22 airports across India are currently non-operational, Gujarat’s Deesa airport being among them.
