A 69-year-old daily wage worker was killed after being run over by an Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) bus near Rupali parking on Monday.

The victim, identified as Bhupendrabhai Shah, who worked at Manek Chowk as a casual labourer, was caught under the wheels of bus no. 151. According to eyewitnesses, two AMTS buses were moving in proximity near the Rupali parking bus station when Shah lost his footing and came under the rear wheels of one of them.

He sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. Police said his body was shifted for post-mortem examination, and his family has been informed.

“The incident occurred when the victim came too close to the moving bus. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether negligence on the part of the driver contributed to the accident,” a police official said.

The driver of the AMTS bus has been detained for questioning, and a case of accidental death has been registered.
