₹68.61 lakh worth of marijuana, drugs seized in separate raids across Surat

In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, the Surat Crime Branch and Lal Gate Police jointly seized narcotics worth over ₹68.61 lakh in two separate operations carried out in the Pandesara and Rani Talav areas.
In the first raid, the Crime Branch apprehended two individuals from the LIG Quarters in Pandesara, recovering nearly 2 kilograms (1.985 kg) of hybrid marijuana valued at ₹59.55 lakh.
The accused, identified as Aditya alias Aadi Yogendrasinh and Piyush alias Kahyu alias Shreyans Gulab Patel, were found with marijuana, mobile phones, ₹400 in cash, and a rexine bag. The total seizure from this raid amounted to ₹59.70 lakh.
Initial investigations revealed that the marijuana was transported from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and was intended for distribution in Surat. The supplier, Anand Yadav, has been declared wanted, and further investigations are underway.
In a separate operation, the Lal Gate Police, acting on a tip-off, arrested Rehan Mohammad Yakub Mewawala near the Ashaktashram Gate. He was found in possession of 99.57 grams of MD drugs worth ₹9.95 lakh.
During interrogation, Rehan confessed to sourcing the drugs from Kurla, Mumbai, and transporting them to Surat via train to supply them to select buyers.
Both police units have registered separate cases and further legal proceedings are in progress.
