65-year-old widow found murdered with hands and legs tied in Ahmedabad

A 65-year-old widow was allegedly murdered during a robbery at her residence in Chharanagar under the jurisdiction of the Sardarnagar Police Station in Ahmedabad late on Tuesday night. Gold jewellery and cash worth an estimated ₹2.5 lakh were reportedly stolen from the house.
The deceased has been identified as Bharatiben Bajrangi, who was living alone. According to preliminary information shared by the police, the crime is believed to have occurred between 11.30 pm and 4 am.
Officials said that around 11 pm, Bharatiben had given some spice to her neighbour Ushaben before retiring for the night. At approximately 4 am, her domestic help arrived at the house but received no response despite repeated knocks. On peering through a window, he reportedly saw Bharatiben lying face down inside the house.
The domestic help immediately alerted her sons, who reside nearby. The family members rushed to the spot and broke open the door to gain entry. They found Bharatiben lying inside the house with her hands and legs tied. Blood was reportedly oozing from her mouth.
The family informed the police and dialled the 108 emergency service. However, she was declared dead at the scene.
The house was found ransacked, with household articles strewn across rooms. Police said gold ornaments worn by the victim were missing, and a cupboard inside the house was found open. Jewellery and cash together valued at around ₹2.5 lakh are suspected to have been stolen.
Assistant Commissioner of Police V N Yadav, G Division, confirmed that it was a case of “robbery with murder”. “The incident took place last night. We are examining all angles, including the possibility of the involvement of someone known to the family,” he said.
According to initial investigation, the manner in which the accused gained entry and targeted valuables has raised suspicion that the perpetrators may have had prior knowledge of the household.
Rasikbhai, a relative of the deceased, said, “We were informed early in the morning and rushed to the house. We had to break open the door. She was lying inside with her hands and legs tied, and the house was completely disturbed.”
The deceased is survived by three sons. Police have formed multiple teams to trace and apprehend the accused. A case of robbery with murder has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
