61 cases of Chandipura in India, 59 from Gujarat: Centre
The numbers released by the Centre in Lok Sabha on the Chandipura virus paint an alarming picture for Gujarat. A total of 59 cases have been reported, and the numbers revealed that 27 of them died from Chandipura.
The mortality rate from Chandipura is also at 50%.
The numbers revealed till Aug 6, the highest number of Chandipura virus cases have been reported in children aged 1 to 5. A total of 33 cases of Chandipura virus have been reported in children aged 1-5, out of which 12 have died.
A total of 61 cases of Chandipura have been reported across the country. Out of these, 59 cases have been reported in Gujarat, while 2 were reported in Rajasthan.
The central government admitted that this is the most alarming situation in Chandipura in the last 20 years.
Bulletins for Chandipura cases are published daily by the Gujarat government. However, the details of the total number of deaths in Chandipura are not disclosed. Only the details of how many deaths from the suspected Chandipura are disclosed by the state.
The state health department had admitted 71 deaths from ‘suspected’ Chandipura till Aug 6. Out of these, 27 children have died from Chandipura, according to the Centre’s numbers.
According to doctors, the initial symptoms of Chandipura are similar to fever. Chandipura affects children below 15 years of age the most as their immunity is low.
