Silver ornaments, cash worth ₹72,000 stolen from 600-yr-old Ganesh temple in Ahmedabad

Thieves broke into the underground chamber of a 600-year-old Ganesh temple at Lal Darwaja and stole ornaments offered to the deity, along with cash from the donation box. The incident has sparked anger among devotees. Karanj police have registered a case and started an investigation.
Inside a 35-foot-deep underground chamber, the idol of Lord Ganesh is installed, symbolising deep faith and devotion.
On the night of August 22, after completing daily rituals, Vinodbhai Punekar, the temple priest, went to sleep but forgot to lock the main door.
The next morning, he found that the room leading to the underground chamber was open. Silver ornaments worth ₹72,000 and cash from the donation box were missing. Following his complaint, Karanj police registered an FIR and launched an investigation based on CCTV footage.
As per the CCTV footage, the suspect posed as a devotee before committing the crime.
