6 kg drugs worth ₹50 lakh pasted on toys and books, accused arrested

After six kg of illegal drugs worth around ₹50 lakh were seized at the city’s foreign post office in the Shahibaug area, a Russian national was arrested on Oct 13 by the Ahmedabad cybercrime branch.

Following the trail of the consignment, police found out that the parcel was about to reach Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Botad.

After probing all the places where the parcel was set to reach, police checked the Amisha Hotel near Surat railway station, where they learned that a foreigner used to deliver parcels often at the hotel. Kolesnikov Vasilii, an engineer, was arrested at a homestay in Manali after a long chase.

ACP Jitendra Yadav said, "This is the biggest drug cartel in India. Vasilii is a resident of Russia who came to India on a tourist visa and has been living in the country illegally since Jan 2020."

He used to sell drugs in Gujarat and other states of India from Indonesia, London, and the USA. He used to send eight parcels in a month, for which he used to earn $100 (₹8342.32) for each deal.

Vasilii was arrested for allegedly creating fake documents such as an Aadhaar card and an e-visa. Two passports, a duplicate Adhaar card, an international driving licence, and a duplicate letter of e-visa.

The drug mafia used to supply the drugs with the help of employees working in the spas in Ahmedabad. The customers of Spa used to get Canadian and American drugs with the help of the workers there.

Involvement of dark web 

In the investigation, the cybercrime department found 35 suspicious mobile numbers and more than six Instagram accounts that were involved in the drug delivery.

The agencies had also received a tip-off that peddlers were using the dark web along with social media platforms for ordering and paying for the drugs.


A drug shipment arriving in Ahmedabad from Canada has been seized at city’s foreign post office in Shahibaug area, and nearly 6 kg of illegal drugs worth around ₹50 lakh have been apprehended by authorities.

The drug consignment was shipped meticulously to evade airport officials.

2.3 gm cocaine, while 5.97 kg cannabis seized by authorities

The Ahmedabad crime branch and the Customs officials at foreign post office, Shahibaug carried out a joint operation on Sept 29 after availing intel regarding a drug consignment being brought to India.

The drug package seized by the authorities included a 2.31 gm shipment of cocaine worth ₹2,31,000 and 5.97 kg of cannabis worth ₹46,08,015.

The total size of the drug bust is said to be 5.972 kg, worth ₹48,39,015.

Subsequently, a case was registered, and police have undertaken a probe regarding this bust.

Modus operandi of the smugglers

The authorities found the drugs in liquid form, which was soaked on the pages and surface of the books and toys and then dried so that they would be chemically bonded, thus disguised as mere toys and books.

However, the shipment was caught based on a tip-off received by the authorities, and the racket was busted.
