132 MBBS doctors had migrated to India after tensions rose in Pakistan. After giving their National Medical Council (NMC) exams, these doctors can now start practicing in India. Out of these MBBS doctors, 52 have registered under the Gujarat Medical Council and will be practicing in Gujarat.
Doctors anticipated to practice medicine in India
These 132 MBBS doctors were conferred their degrees in Karachi, where they finished their studies. Some of them even practiced medicine before leaving Pakistan. But they had to avail themselves of Indian citizenship and pass the NMC before starting their practice in India once they left Pakistan.
Despite having an MBBS degree, the doctors couldn't practice in India, and many of them worked as medical storekeepers, lab assistants, medical representatives (MR), and even tutored children until the formalities were completed.
10,000 Pakistani Hindus migrated to Gujarat
A long-term visa was issued to Pakistani Hindus by the central government, of whom 10,000 are residing in Gujarat. It is noteworthy that 5,000 of them live in Ahmedabad itself. Many of these Pakistani-born Hindus have cleared the Chartered Accountant, Law, and Medical examinations in India. These migrants were granted citizenship under the Citizenship Act of 1955.
