50 accident-prone black spots identified across Gujarat during festive season

Between 2022 and 2024, the State Highway Police — with assistance from local police — has intensified safety measures at 50 identified black spots across Gujarat that have seen a high number of fatal road accidents. Data shows that these 50 accident-prone spots have witnessed around 300 major accidents claiming 260 lives in the last three years.
To prevent fatal mishaps and traffic congestion on highways passing near urban areas, the State Traffic Branch and Gujarat Road Safety Authority have coordinated with local police in respective cities and districts to ensure better traffic management, especially during the festive season.
In Gujarat’s major cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, more than 1,000 people die every year in road accidents. City traffic police units regularly monitor urban accident black spots and adjust traffic arrangements accordingly.
However, highways passing through these urban outskirts and various districts have also been identified as recurring accident zones.
To minimise fatal road crashes during Diwali and other festivals, special arrangements and 24-hour police monitoring are being carried out at these 50 high-risk locations.
From 2022 to 2024, 10 accidents at Kerala GIDC Bridge in Ahmedabad district resulted in 10 deaths, while 11 accidents near Bagodra’s Begwa Crossroads claimed five lives.
