Diwali fireworks reduce 5 shops to ashes in Ahmedabad
The festive season saw multiple cases of fires caused by fireworks or short circuits in Ahmedabad. The fire department received 189 calls relating to fire incidents during the four days of Diwali.
On Friday at 11.55pm, the fire department received a call about a fire at Barrel Market. In Shahpur, a fire was caused by fireworks in Halim ni Khadki, and another incident in the same area occurred when five shops in a row caught fire.
The fire was extinguished with the help of three fire vehicles, but all the shops had turned into ashes.
In Kalupur, at Jagrut Pol, a house caught fire. Residents of the area also posted a video of the incident on social media, which went viral.
On Friday, the fire department received 50 calls regarding fire incidents across the city. On Saturday, 34 calls were received, followed by 14 calls on Sunday and 11 calls on Monday.
In these four days, in addition to fireworks-related incidents, there were incidents of short circuits in schools, houses, shops, factories, garbage piles, and godowns.
Notably, the West Zone of Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of fire incidents, with 65 cases.
