485 accidents reported in state as Navratri kicks off across Gujarat

As the Navratri fervour takes over the state, the rise in the excitement was accompanied by the rise in the injuries due to the road accidents and other medical emergencies in Gujarat, according to the 108 emergency services. Just the first day of the nine-day festival saw a significant spike in the injuries reported from the road accidents. 

485 accidents in Gujarat

A 17% spike in vehicle accidents was observed on the first day of Navratri itself on Oct 15, as per the data available from the 108 emergency ambulance services.

Generally, the state reports 414 injury cases due to vehicle accidents daily. As compared to that, 485 cases were registered on the first day of Navratri.

As per the data available, most of these cases were caused by overspeeding vehicles.

A 21% increase was observed solely in Ahmedabad.

207 cardiac emergencies

The 108 emergency services also received 207 calls for cardiac emergencies on Oct 15.

Recently, the state has been seeing a spike in cases of heart attacks while performing garba.

Following this, the Ahmedabad Medical Association had also issued a guideline before Navratri. The guidelines instructed people suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease to avoid playing garba to reduce the risk of cardiac arrest. Along with this, the guidelines mentioned garba revellers to consume foods like banana or coconut water while playing, which are rich in potassium and magnesium. They were also advised to hydrate themselves while dancing.

There was a spike of 56% incases of headache on the first day of Navratri, with the count rising to 38, as compared to the usual 24.
