In a serious breach of police protocol, four personnel from Meghaninagar police station in Ahmedabad have been suspended after allegedly failing to register a complaint of assault.

The incident, which has raised concerns over police negligence, came to light following the intervention of senior officials.

According to reports, a local youth named Shatrughan approached Meghaninagar police station to lodge a complaint after he was allegedly assaulted. However, police officers on duty reportedly dismissed him without formally registering his complaint.

Feeling aggrieved, Shatrughan contacted Zone-4 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kanan Desai and narrated the incident. Acting promptly, DCP Desai personally visited the police station and launched an internal inquiry.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the on-duty personnel at the inquiry desk had sent the complainant away without due procedure, citing the end of their shift. The negligence on part of the police officers reportedly led to a second assault on the victim later.

Taking the matter seriously, DCP Desai ordered the immediate suspension of four officials—Inquiry In-Charge Pankaj Kumar Dashrath, Writer Chirag Kumar Ashokbhai, PSO Amit Kumar Vijaybhai, and Writer Kinjalben Vitthalbhai—for dereliction of duty and violation of protocol.

Senior police officials stated that such incidents tarnish the image of the police force and undermine public trust. The DCP has assured strict action against any lapses in service delivery, particularly in cases involving personal safety and crime prevention.

An inquiry into the entire episode has been initiated, and departmental proceedings are expected to follow.
