4 killed as car vaults divider on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Gujarat

In a horrific road accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor near Kalol in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district, four members of a Vadodara-based family lost their lives after their speeding car went out of control and leapt across the divider onto the opposite carriageway.
According to initial reports, the driver of the car lost control at high speed, causing the vehicle to crash through the divider and get flung onto the other side of the highway. Four of the five occupants died on the spot, while one person miraculously survived.
Vadodara family wiped out in seconds
All the victims have been identified as residents of Vadodara. The Khimji family was returning from Rajasthan when tragedy struck near Kalol. The deceased have been identified as Sajid Iqbal Khimji (55), Iliyas Iqbal Khimji (50), Ishaq Iqbal Khimji (48), and Rehan Ajgar Khimji (35).
The loss of four members from a single family has sent shockwaves through Vadodara, leaving relatives and locals in deep mourning.
Rescue efforts and investigation underway
Upon receiving information about the accident, local residents and police teams rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. Efforts were made to pull out those trapped inside the mangled vehicle. The bodies were later shifted to the Kalol Referral Hospital for post-mortem.
Scenes of grief unfolded at the hospital premises as family members broke down upon receiving the news.
Panchmahal police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are probing the exact cause of the crash, including the speed of the vehicle at the time and how it managed to breach the divider. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver may have lost control of the steering, leading to the fatal incident.
