4 AMC officials, including additional city engineer, penalised for negligence

Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has penalised four of its officials including Additional City Engineer Mahendra H Ninama by withholding one salary increment, citing serious negligence in duty.
According to sources, the AMC’s Industrial Relations Department took disciplinary action after finding evidence of negligence of duty, irregularities in machinery operations, and procedural lapses in the tendering process within the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Department.
Along with Ninama, Deputy City Engineer U K Madiya, Assistant City Engineer Sanjay Jethwa, and Assistant Engineer Rajesh Patni were also found responsible and penalised with the withholding of one increment, as ordered by the AMC’s Industrial Relations Department.
The issue surfaced when work in the Gota ward came to a standstill, leading to overflowing drains during the monsoon. Following this, a vigilance inquiry was launched against Ninama for allegedly delaying the tender process for the new operation and maintenance contract of Super machines.
The vigilance report confirmed serious negligence, after which a show-cause notice was issued. The earlier contract for Super machine operations was set to expire on March 8, 2024, but the new tender was generated only on March 6, 2024 just two days before the expiry. The delay resulted in halted operations and public inconvenience in Gota.
Ninama responded to the notice on February 7, 2025, but failed to present any evidence or documentation to justify the delay. His explanation was deemed unsatisfactory and rejected.
