37 locations in Ahmedabad likely to face waterlogging this monsoon
Thirty-seven locations in Ahmedabad are expected to experience waterlogging, including road cave-ins, this monsoon.
In areas like Bopal, Ghuma, Vejalpur, and Makarba, the work of laying stormwater pipelines is unlikely to be completed before the monsoon begins. Residents of areas such as Nikol, Naroda, and Narol will also face severe hardships during this rainy season.
Residents can only expect warning boards and barricades at the construction sites.
Most of the ongoing projects are scheduled to be completed at various times in 2026.
As part of the AMC’s pre-monsoon efforts, only 28% of the stormwater pumping station work has been completed in Bopal and Ghuma. In Gota, the progress stands at 30%. The construction of a stormwater box from Shreenandnagar to the Sabarmati River is only 5% complete.
In the Nikol ward, at Gopal Chowk, where waterlogging is a major issue, just 80% of the work of laying a rising line to the Khari river for water drainage has been completed.
The AMC claims to have planned projects worth ₹842 crore across 37 locations for rainwater drainage.
