352 road accident deaths reported in Vadodara in 2025, overspeeding leading cause

Vadodara district recorded 352 deaths in road accidents in 2025, with overspeeding emerging as the leading cause behind the fatal crashes. Official data shows that two-wheelers were responsible for the highest number of deaths, followed by four-wheelers and accidents involving pedestrians.

Vadodara district is traversed by national highways, expressways, state highways and panchayat roads, all of which witness heavy daily traffic from villages and taluka headquarters. Authorities said negligence by motorists continues to result in fatal accidents, claiming the lives of innocent road users.

According to the data, 352 people lost their lives in road accidents during 2025. The victims included 315 men and 37 women. Among the deceased were 133 drivers, including two women, whose negligence was found to have contributed to the accidents.

Two-wheeler-related accidents accounted for 162 deaths, the highest among all vehicle categories. Accidents involving four-wheelers, including cars, taxis and vans, claimed 67 lives, while truck accidents resulted in 39 deaths. Five people died in accidents involving State Transport buses.

A total of 665 people sustained injuries in road accidents during the year. Of these, 387 suffered serious injuries while 188 sustained minor injuries. Pedestrians were also heavily affected, with 63 people losing their lives while walking on roads.

Officials noted that while there had been a slight decline in accident-related deaths in 2024 compared to 2023, the death toll rose again in 2025. In 2023, a total of 315 people had died in road accidents in the district.

Authorities have undertaken several measures to reduce accidents on highways, but crashes continue to occur. Overspeeding has emerged as the primary cause of accidents, with both two-wheelers and four-wheelers being involved in high-speed collisions.

Data further shows that accident numbers tend to rise during festival seasons and vacation periods. March, October and December recorded higher numbers of accidents, coinciding with school vacations and major festivals, including Diwali.

Highways passing through Vadodara district continue to witness a significant number of fatal accidents. Recently, eight people were killed after a luxury bus rammed into a stationary truck on the Halol-Vadodara State Highway. The Bharatmala Highway has also seen an increase in fatal accidents, with two major crashes this month claiming six lives. Three people each were killed in separate accidents near Samiyala and in Karjan taluka.

Among different road categories, state highways recorded the highest number of accident deaths at 153. National highways accounted for 52 deaths, expressways for 18, while other roads recorded 129 fatalities, taking the total death toll to 352.
