In a surprising revelation, the home department of the state had the most government employees caught taking bribes, a testament to prevalent corruption in Gujarat’s government offices.

In response to the question asked by MLA Ganiben Thakor, the home department admitted that in 2022 and 2023, 16 of class-1, 57 of class-2, 247 of class-3 and 16 of class-4 officers have been caught taking bribes, totalling to 352 officials. 

Among the employees who were caught taking the bribe, the maximum number of 109 employees were from the home department.

From other departments, 40 of the revenue department, 37 of the panchayat village development department, 15 of education department, 36 of urban development, 12 of the agriculture department, 15 officials of forest-environment, and 10 officials of energy department were caught taking bribes.
